Preliminary results from today’s election for two seats on the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District’s Board of Trustees indicate that unopposed incumbent Al Martinez, Jr. was elected to position 1 and Albert Arechiga III was elected to a previously vacant position 2.
Although he drew no opponent, Martinez collected 759 votes and will retain his seat for a fourth consecutive term on the CFISD Board. He has been a trustee since May 1995 and has previously served as Board president and vice president during his previous terms.
For the position 2 seat, Albert Arechiga III received 698 votes over competitor Dan Chaney, who drew 247 votes. This will be the first term for Arechiga.
The position 2 seat has remained vacant since June of 2003 following the resignation of former trustee Terry Newcomer, who stepped down due to health reasons. The Board voted to leave the position vacant pending this election.
Overall, the election drew759 votes for position 1 and 945 votes for position 2. Early voting accounted for 234 and 271 of the ballots cast in each of the two respective races.
Official results from today’s election will be canvassed and announced during the Monday, May 24 Board of Trustees special-called meeting, at which each of the two elected candidates will be sworn in to serve a three-year term.
