CY-FAIR STUDENTS
WIN BRONZE MEDAL IN NATIONAL
HISTORY DAY COMPETITION

Cy-Fair High School students (l-r) Jennifer
Grieger, Allie Chapman, Katie Unverferth and Lauren Atencio captured the bronze
medal in senior group performance at the 2004 National History Day competition
held June 13-17 at the University of Maryland. The group advanced to the National
History Day Competition after winning first place in the state contest with the
project “Grave Memories: Encountering the Black Death in Medieval Europe.” This
year’s theme was Exploration, Encounter, Exchange in History. The top students
in each category were selected to participate in the national contest. Each year
more than half a million students nationwide begin the year-long National History
Day program, competing in a series of history contests in their local districts
and states. The top students in each category are selected for participation in
the national contest. National History Day students research historic documents
and artifacts, conduct oral histories and interviews, and search the Internet
for information on their topics.
