

Retiring Superintendent of Schools Rick Berry joined school district trustees and administrators as well as representatives from the community and PBK Architects, Inc and SpawGlass Construction Corp., in braving the elements on a stormy June 8 morning for the groundbreaking ceremonies of the Richard E. Berry Educational Support Center and district’s second athletic stadium. The new complex, located at Barker Cypress and West Road, will feature a 9,500-seat arena, a 450-seat auditorium as well as staff development and athletic offices. The new athletic stadium will feature a seating capacity of 11,000. Taking part in the groundbreaking ceremonies were (l-r): Dan Boggio, president and CEO of PBK Architects, Inc.; Bob Covey, co-chairman of the 2001 Bond Election Support Facilities sub-committee; Al Martinez, trustee; Pam Wells, superintendent designee; Rick Berry, retiring superintendent and building namesake; Dr. Bill O’Brien, trustee; Don Ryan, trustee; George Hobson, associate superintendent for business services; Dr. John Ogletree, trustee; Michael Emmons, Sr., senior vice president and regional manager of SpawGlass Construction Corp.; and Roy Sprague, senior director of facilities and planning.
