Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District trustees honored Mary Smith, secondary social studies coordinator, at the June 10 Board work session. Smith was recently named the state’s Supervisor of the Year by the Texas Social Studies Supervisors’ Association (TSSA).
“Mary has spent the past seven years in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD,” said Carolyn Spillane, assistant superintendent for secondary instruction. “She was praised by TSSSA for her enthusiasm and dedication to social studies. She has given many hours to serving on the TSSSA board in the past, and has always been active and willing to present at conferences. She served as vice president of TSSSA and also as vice president of the Texas Council for Social Studies.”
A comment made repeatedly by her peers was “Mary not only gives to the social studies, but she gives personally as well.”
Smith will compete with supervisors from other states for the national award, sponsored by the National Social Studies Supervisors Association.
