TRUSTEES RECOGNIZE COMPUTER SCIENCE LEAGUE WINNERS

Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District trustees honored Cypress Creek High School students who won national awards at the recent American Computer Science League All-Star International Competition during the August 9 Board meeting.

Kevin Savidge, Maher Beg, Dustin Grabau, Geoffrey Brown and Alan Viverette placed first in the Intermediate Division in the competition, held May 29 in Chicago. These five students competed in four contests during the year to qualify competition, which included students from schools across the U.S., Canada, Croatia and Romania.

“These students earned points by working as a group to write programs given a variety of scenarios. Then they took a written test as individuals to earn additional points,” said Denise Kubecka, coordinator of computer science and business. “These students represented themselves, their school and the district well at this competition.”

Computer science teachers at Cypress Creek are Tom Halbert, Nita Pessarra and Mike Cook.
