Thanks to the generous support of local businesses, the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District and the Cypress-Fairbanks Educational Foundation (CFEF) are set to host the 7 th annual Salute to the Stars gala October 14 at Cypress Ridge High School in honor of the district’s outstanding Spotlight Teachers for 2004.
Outback Steakhouse located at 13240 U.S. 290 will once again be donating the meal for the gala, marking the sixth consecutive year that the restaurant has demonstrated its generosity for this event.
Mike Sheehy, general manager of Outback, said the company was founded on the idea that giving back to the community was important and that education is important to the community.
“I have had the pleasure of being involved in the Salute to the Stars Gala for five years and I’ve watched the event grow from a five hundred person event to close to seven hundred. This is our single largest community involvement of the calendar year,” Sheehy said.
“Throughout all of the community events that I have been involved with, I have yet to see anyone come close to the commitment and desire to do the right thing as the CFEF. Within that group you find a great core of individuals who understand the importance of mentors, leaders, and educators,” he added.
In addition to Outback’s contribution, the Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union will serve as underwriter for this year’s Salute to the Stars gala. Although it has supported the gala in various ways for several years, this will be the first year that the credit union has graciously served as an underwriter.
“The Credit Union has supported the Gala by purchasing a table since the program’s inception. We felt it was an excellent opportunity for us to step up the plate and support this event even more by becoming an underwriter,” said Debbie Blackshear, president of the Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union. “Children are our greatest asset. We are proud to be a supporter of the excellent teachers of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. Teachers are truly the unsung heroes in America.”
Dr. David Anthony, superintendent of schools, said he appreciates the support of local businesses such as these.
“I’m so impressed that our business partners give so much of their time throughout the school year to assist the students and teachers of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. The Salute to the Stars gala honors these deserving teachers, and I thank the Outback Steakhouse on 290 and the Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union for their continued generous support for such a wonderful event,” he said.
The Salute to the Stars gala also serves as the primary fund-raising event for the Cypress-Fairbanks Educational Foundation’s Instructional Excellence Grant program. Over the last decade, the Foundation has awarded $415,000 in grants to teachers for innovative programs that were implemented in CFISD schools.
