LANGHAM CREEK TRAINER ELECTED TO SWATA HALL OF FAME

Langham Creek High School head athletic trainer Thomas Woods was inducted into the Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association (SWATA) Hall of Fame at the organization’s annual convention held July 16 in Arlington.

Woods has previously served as president of the Greater Houston Athletic Trainers’ Society (GHATS) and the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association.   He served for six years on the board of directors of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Research & Education Foundation, and presently serves as the foundation’s treasurer.

He has earned numerous awards for his leadership in athletic training and youth sports safety.   In 1996, he was selected by the Texas High School Coaches’ Association as the Texas High School Athletic Trainer of the Year.   He is a past recipient of the NATA Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award, and in 1997, earned the SWATA Frank Medina Service Award, which is presented annually to an athletic trainer who has made significant contributions to the athletic training profession.

Woods, who has served as athletic trainer at Langham Creek High School since the school opened in 1984, also received the GHATS Tom Wilson Award for the pursuit of excellence in sports medicine.

“Thomas is an outstanding professional who keeps the well-being of his students first and foremost at all times,” said Larry Peil, CFISD director of athletics. “We are honored that so many of his peers have recognized his dedication and service to the student athletes of Langham Creek High School .”
