
Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District trustees honored Cypress Springs High School biology teacher Saundra Coffey during the December 13 Board meeting.
Coffey, who is also science department chairperson, recently received the 2004 Outstanding Biology Teacher Award at the Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching in Corpus Christi on November 6, 2004. This award given annually since 1961, identifies a Biology teacher from each state in the United states, its possessions, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and Canada who has made valuable contributions to the profession and to his/her students. Criteria for the award include teaching ability, experience, inventiveness, initiative, inherent teaching strengths, and cooperativeness in the school and community.
“Saundra Coffey is so deserving of the 2004 Outstanding Biology Teacher Award. She is always searching for innovative ideas that will promote student achievement, Saundra is a passionate, dedicated professional. She has earned the respect of students, parents, and colleagues,” said Charlotte Burns, coordinator of secondary science.
