SEXTON NAMED TOUCHDOWN CLUB DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Cypress Falls High School defensive back Andre Sexton was named the Touchdown Club of Houston’s Defensive Player of the Year at the organization’s annual High School Awards Dinner at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Houston on December 8.

Sexton finished the 2004 season with 125 tackles, three interceptions, three blocked punts, three blocked field goals and showed his versatility by catching two touchdown passes. He was instrumental in leading the Eagles to an 8-5 record and a trip to the state quarterfinals.

“Andre is a special young man that only comes around once in a career.   To have an opportunity to coach and work with him has been a blessing,” said David Raffield, head coach at Cypress Falls. “ Although I will miss his play on the field, it will be his day-to-day personality and natural leadership I will miss the most.   Cy-Falls HS is a better place with Andre, and will not be the same without him.”

Sexton, who has already committed to continue his football career at Oklahoma State, says he is thrilled by the announcement.

“It is a tremendous honor to receive such a distinguished award.   Houston has some of the top athletes in the world and it was a great privilege to accept this award for Cy-Falls, my teammates, coaches and family,” said Sexton.
