Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Trustees honored Jim Foxx, Director of Operations, during the January 18 board meeting. Foxx was honored for his leadership in the field of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) resulting in the district’s receiving the 2004 Excellence Award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at the 5 th Annual Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools National Symposium December 2-4, 2004 in Washington, D.C.
Foxx was responsible for developing and implementing the district’s IAQ Plan and the Environmental Protection Agency’s “Tools for Schools” program. More than 500 school representatives and health, technical and environmental experts participate in this program.
Mike Miller, Indoor Environments Program Coordinator for Region 6 of the Environmental Protection Agency, presented the award to Foxx during the board meeting.
“We spend 90 percent or more of our time indoors. The EPA has conducted a number of studies that show the effects from indoor air pollution, especially pollution which occurs in schools,” Miller said. “That’s why we implemented the Tools for Schools program and Cypress-Fairbanks ISD has taken a leadership role since the program began. This is the highest level of award offered by the EPA – only 12 awards are given in the nation. I would like to commend Jim Foxx for implementing this program in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and also commend the Board and Superintendent for their leadership in this effort.”
