LIBRARIES RECEIVE DONATIONS TO PURCHASE BOOKS

Students at Copeland Elementary and Aragon Middle School will soon be opening the pages of new library books thanks to generous donations from the Charles and Betty Saunders Foundation.

Each library received a $5,000 check from the Foundation in December. The money will be used solely to purchase new library books.

“We try to donate to local charities and organizations just like my father (Charles Saunders) did. One of our children has already graduated from Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and we still have two children attending schools in the district. We realize how vital reading is to learning and decided to donate to the schools that do such a great job of educating our children,” said Cindy Buggs. She and her husband, Brad, are parents in the district.

Betty Schuetz, media specialist at Copeland, did a double take after receiving the check from Cindy.

“I opened the envelope and looked at the check but didn’t realize for awhile how much it was. I was so excited when I realized how much it was and how many books it could provide!” said Betty Schuetz, media specialist at Copeland.

The staff at Aragon was equally surprised.

“Nothing like this has ever happened to us before. We were so excited that we started crying,” said Shelly Duplechian, media specialist at Aragon.

Jessica Hughes, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD coordinator of libraries, said the money will be put to good use to benefit students quickly.

“This donation is so wonderful – each library will be able to purchase more than 300 books which will directly impact the students,” said Hughes. “Each new book purchased will have a bookplate on the front inside cover so every student that ever reads the book will know that it was purchased from this gift.”
