Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is looking for dedicated individuals to serve as mentors to our students in grades K-12. No experience required. The only qualification to join is a strong commitment to helping students with their personal and educational development.
A mentor training session will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, in the Board room of the Instructional Support Center, 10300 Jones Road. Please call 281-807-8604 to reserve your seat.
Once trained, a criminal background check processed, and the application accepted, the mentor meets with the student once a week at the selected school during regular school hours. The mentor will provide the individualized positive attention that many children need to be successful in school and life.
Mentors also benefit from the special bond that forms between mentor and mentee. Mentors report an overwhelming sense of self-satisfaction with the mentoring relationship and the program. They often return to the school year after year to successfully mentor more students.
Unfortunately, there is a long waiting list of children in need of an adult, caring friend. Schools throughout the district are seeking mentors to fill this need.
Mentors are extraordinary volunteers who love to share their knowledge, experiences and commitment to education with a special student. If you would like to become a mentor or require more information, call the CFISD Partners in Education office at 218-807-8604.
