Members of the U.S. Armed Forces who were injured in Iraq will soon be receiving more than 1,000 homemade “get well” cards from Truitt Middle School students, thanks to a week-long school-wide effort led by the Student Council.
Student Council members organized the drive after learning that a Truitt parent, Julie Demille, was attending the January 20 Presidential Inauguration. The cards will be delivered to injured soldiers in Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. this week.
“ The number of cards that was sent was incredible,” said Alison King, student council sponsor at Truitt. “The cards filled an entire copy paper box. We have approximately 1,400 students in our building and the response was amazing.”
