CFISD NAMES ADMINISTRATORS

 

Following the approval of employee transactions during its regularly scheduled meeting for the month of March, the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District Board of Trustees recognized current Kirk principal, Linda Jefferson, as the new principal of Copeland Elementary and current Metcalf Elementary assistant principal, Christina Cole, as the new principal for Holmsley Elementary.

Ms. Jefferson has 27 years of experience in education. She began her teaching career in Ft. Worth ISD. In 1982, she joined CFISD as a teacher at Frazier Elementary. She later served as a team leader at Holbrook Elementary and Frazier Elementary and assistant principal at Bane Elementary. As a result of her demonstrated leadership skills, Ms. Jefferson was then named the principal at Yeager Elementary where she served for eight years. She was then asked to open Kirk Elementary. She has served as the principal at Kirk for the past five years.

Ms. Cole, also a veteran educator, has 10 years of experience. She began her teaching career as a bilingual teacher at Spring Branch Elementary in Spring Branch ISD. In 1998 she joined  Cypress-Fairbanks ISD  as a bilingual teacher at Frazier Elementary. In 1999 she assumed the role as project facilitator for a 1.5 million-dollar Improving America’s School Act Grant at Frazier Elementary. In 2000 she was selected to serve as the Instructional Specialist for that campus. As a result of her demonstrated leadership skills, she was promoted to the position of assistant principal at Walker Elementary. She served in that role for two years before moving to Metcalf Elementary where she is currently the assistant principal.

The Board of Trustees also recognized Roy Garcia as assistant superintendent for secondary school administration. Mr. Garcia has 16 years of experience in education. He began his teaching career as a teacher at Jackson Middle School in Grand Prairie ISD. After three years, he was promoted to assistant principal at South Grand Prairie High School where he remained for six years before being promoted to principal. He has served in his current role as principal of Grand Prairie High School for seven years. He joins the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD staff with proven professional experience including leading South Grand Prairie High School to receive the U.S. Department of Education Smaller Learning Communities Implementation Grant as well as being named a New American High Schools Showcase site. He has also presented at conferences and currently serves as a content coach for the Maryland State Department of Education’s School Improvement Institute.
