The winner and runner-up for the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Middle School Spelling Bee are pictured receiving their awards following an intense competition. Pictured on the right, Thornton Middle School seventh-grade student Nicholas Goodman won first place by correctly spelling the words “rutilant” and “modinha” in the final round in order to win. Nicholas will advance to compete in the Houston Chronicle Spelling Bee scheduled for March 23, 2005. Cook Middle School sixth-grade student Zachary Abeyta (left) was the runner-up in the district competition held February 15 at the Instructional Support Center.
