CFISD NAMES FOUR PRINCIPALS

 

Following the approval of employee transactions during its regularly scheduled meeting for the month of February, the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District Board of Trustees recognized current Copeland principal Lesa Cain as the new principal of Hairgrove Elementary; current Yeager Elementary assistant principal, Laura Harman, as the new principal for Moore Elementary; current Cypress Ridge assistant principal, Robert Hatcher, as the new principal for Campbell Middle School; and current Jersey Village associate principal, Cheryl Johns, as the new principal for Labay Middle School.

The four administrators will replace current Hairgrove principal, Sandra Oliver; Moore principal, Barbara Fine; Campbell principal, Gary Kinninger; and Labay principal, Marvin Webster who were named at the January 18 Board meeting as the principals to open Danish Elementary School, Lee Elementary School, Spillane Middle School, and Kahla Middle School,  respectively.

Ms. Cain has 16 years of experience in education. She began her teaching career in Slaton ISD at Stephen F. Austin Elementary. In 1990, she joined CFISD as a teacher at Horne Elementary.  

In 1995, she was promoted to the position of assistant principal at Horne Elementary where she served for five years. As a result of her demonstrated leadership skills, Ms. Cain was then named the principal of Copeland Elementary where she has served for the past four years.

Ms. Harman, also a 16-year veteran educator, has taught elementary students at Bane and Metcalf Elementary. In 1996, as a result of her leadership, she was promoted to assistant principal at Francone Elementary where she served for eight years before moving to Yeager Elementary as an assistant principal.

Dr. Hatcher has 18 years of experience in education. He began his teaching career in the Houston Independent School District where he taught music at Codwell and Lovett elementary schools.   He then moved to the Alief ISD as an assistant principal at the Alief Learning Center and then Elsik High School.

Dr. Johns began her 22 years of experience in education at Klein High School in Klein ISD before coming to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in 1986 as a speech/debate teacher at Cypress Creek High School. She transferred to Cypress Falls High School as a teacher prior to being promoted to the position of director of instruction at Truitt Middle School in 1995, where she served for six years. In 2001, she transferred to Jersey Village High School where she served as director of instruction for one year before moving to her current position of associate principal.

The Board of Trustees also recognized Marney Collins-Sims as general counsel for Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. Ms. Sims received her bachelor of science in criminal justice in criminology and corrections from Sam Houston State University and a doctorate of jurisprudence from University of Houston. Sims has six years of experience in education law with Bracewell and Patterson, LLP where she advised several area school districts.
