The winner and runner-up for the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Elementary Spelling Bee are pictured receiving their awards following an intense competition. Pictured on the left, Fiest Elementary fifth-grade student Jonathan Xu won first place by correctly spelling the words “gendarme” and “ecclesiastic” in the final round in order to win. Jonathan will advance to compete in the Houston Chronicle Spelling Bee scheduled for March 23, 2005. Walker Elementary fifth-grade student Taha Tayyab (right) was the runner-up in the district competition held February 8 at the Instructional Support Center.
“We had an especially exciting elementary spelling bee competition this year. Our students worked extra hard to prepare for this event, which was demonstrated by their ability to spell advanced words in the final rounds. I applaud the remarkable effort of all the district spelling bee school winners along with the support they received from their parents, teachers, and campus administrators,” said Julie Anderson, elementary language arts coordinator for CFISD.
