ALL CFISD SCHOOLS MEET NATIONAL STANDARD OF AYP

All schools in Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District met the national standard for 2004 Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Cypress-Fairbanks ISD has a student enrollment that is more than 79,000 students this school year and is the largest district in Texas in which every school met the federal goals showing academic progress last year.

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), which was signed by the President on January 8, 2002, reauthorizes and amends federal programs established under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). Under NCLB, accountability provisions that formerly applied only to districts and campuses receiving Title I, Part A funds now apply to all districts and campuses.

All public school districts and campuses in the state are evaluated annually for Adequate Yearly Progress. The Texas AYP Plan approved by the United States Department of Education in July 2004 meets the requirements in NCLB and provides a mechanism for evaluating district and campus AYP in 2004.

The AYP requirements in NCLB are based on the following principles for all schools: students’ test results on state-mandated tests; baseline performance standards for reading/language arts and mathematics; test participation standards; student subgroup performance and participation standards; and other measures including high school graduation rates.
