Earl Heinemann, who has volunteered regularly at Lamkin Elementary for the past 16 years, is one of only three volunteers from the state to receive the Texas Association of Partners in Education (TAPE) Intergenerational Volunteer Award for his support of public education.
The award, which honors a senior citizen that assists schools, teachers and/or students in a manner that positively impacts student success, will be presented to Heinemann, at the TAPE annual conference at the InterContinental Hotel in Dallas February 10. Heinemann is the large school district award recipient in Texas.
“Earl Heinemann is such a wonderful person. He logged 228 hours at Lamkin during the 2003-04 school year alone and has volunteered more than 3,600 total hours in 16 years. He drives in from Hockley every Wednesday to serve as a math and reading tutor for first and second grade students,” said Pam Scott, director of partners in education for CFISD. “He also finds time to chaperone students on field trips, advise Future Farmers of America (FFA) students at Cy-Fair High School and volunteer at the Chrysalis Day Care Center across the street from Lamkin.”
