TRUSTEES RECOGNIZE AQUATIC SAFETY MANAGER

Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District trustees honored Gayle Jones, Aquatic Safety Manager, during the February 28 Board meeting.

Jones recently received the Cindy Hollaran Distinguished Service Award at the Texas Public Pool Council Conference in College Station. This award is presented annually to the aquatic professional that best represents unselfish devotion to the profession of aquatics in the State of Texas.

Her knowledge of the state laws on pools has earned Jones speaking engagements at TISCA (Texas Inter Scholastic Coaches Association), TRAPS (Texas Recreation and Parks Services), and the YMCA of Greater Houston. She is a member of a newly founded group called Texas Aquatics CIRT (Critical Incident Response Team). She has organized and sponsored the first ISD Pool Operators workshop, is a Certified Pool Operator Instructor and hosts an annual CPO class. She also holds certifications as a PPOA (Professional Pool Operators of America), POOL (Pool Operators on Location) for the YMCA and AFO (Aquatic Facility Operator). Jones is an American Red Cross instructor and instructor trainer in addition to holding many ARC certifications.

“Gayle demonstrates her love of aquatics on a daily basis and continually supports her lifeguards. She was recently honored as February Lifeguard of the Month. The program has grown tremendously since her employment with Cypress Fairbanks in 1993. She has challenged herself developing the Operations’ Aquatic Safety program, which now employs three additional staff and 16 lifeguards. She attends swim meets, assists and relieves lifeguards when needed,” said Tony Barcelona, assistant superintendent for school services.
