Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District trustees honored Langham Creek High School teacher Elaine Schwartz during the June 9 Board work session.
Schwartz is the only history teacher in the state to win the Gilder-Lehrman Preserve American History award, established in 2004 by Preserve America, a program created by First Lady Laura Bush to protect America’s cultural and national heritage. As the Texas representative, Schwartz will now advance to the national contest. The History Teacher of the Year award is designed to promote, celebrate, encourage and honor the teaching of U.S. history in America’s classrooms.
“Elaine is extremely deserving of this award. She will receive a plaque and $1,000 and Langham Creek will receive an archive of primary historical materials in her name,” said Mary Smith, coordinator of secondary social studies.
