CFISD SCHOOLS WIN 36 AWARDS AT THE GULF COAST REGIONAL DESTINATION IMAGINATION COMPETITION

 

On Saturday, Feb. 18, 80 teams representing Cypress-Fairbanks ISD schools participated in the Gulf Coast Regional Destination ImagiNation Competition.  

Twenty-nine of the 80 teams brought home 36 awards: three DaVincI awards, given for outstanding creativity; two Renaissance awards, given for unusual solutions, skill and excellence of design; five Spirit of Discovery and Imagination (Spirit of DI), given for the team that sets the standard of positive team interaction and collaboration; eight third place awards; eight second place awards; and ten first place awards.

The winning teams will compete in the Texas Destination ImagiNation State Competition which will be held in Corpus Christi, Texas, March 31 – April 2, 2006.

“The Cypress-Fairbanks students represented the district very well.   The quality of their presentations reflected the time and energy the teams invested in the challenges, and their creative solutions demonstrated their inventive and fascinating thought processes,” said Bonnie Northcutt, coordinator of HORIZONS, Gifted & Talented Department.

State Bound Elementary Winners:                                                                                                   

  • Hamilton Elementary: Team Squirrel won 1 st place in the Kidz Rulz challenge. Team members were Colin Chappell, Casey Cogan, Erin Curby, Brittan Elliott, Brooke Hanley, Adam Walker, and Kirsten Williamson. The s chool sponsor was Mary Duhon and the team manager was Denise Cogan.
  • Reed Elementary: Most Creative 7won 1 st place in How’d tHAT Happen? challenge. Team members were Idara Akpan, Amy Berryhill, Jacob Caudell, Tony Galvan, Greg Hoffman, Sarah McKenzie, and Charlotte Shuff. The school sponsor was Brenda Haverty and the team manager was Pat Shuff.
  • Yeager Elementary:   VR Geese won 1 st place in the How’d tHAT Happen? challenge and a Spirit of            Destination ImagiNation medal. The team members were Abigail Buck, Blair Dewing, Annie Elkington, Kelsey McGlamery, Katie Mudd, Deanna Narveson, and Emma Willingham. The school sponsor was Ardith Daily and the team manager was Linda Mudd.

WilDImagination won 1 st place in the Back At You! challenge. The team members were  Michelle Barnett, Andrew Boushka, Becca Bond, Grant Cook, Cameron Frederick, Alex Mudd, and Kirsten Thomas. The school sponsor was Ardith Daily and team managers were Molly Cook and Julie Boushka.

Other Elementary Winners:

  • Bang Elementary: DI DIvas and Uno Dude-O won 2 nd place in Kidz Rulz.

  • Hamilton Elementary: Lucky 7’s won 2 nd place in Back at You! and Mighty Minds were awarded the DaVincI Medal.

  • Keith Elementary: Keith Architects won 2 nd place in Inside Dimension; Keith Bears won 3 rd place in Kidz Rulz; and Keith Tigers was awarded the Renaissance Medal.

  • Kirk Elementary: Guess Who’s Back? won 3 rd place in Back at You!and Creativitorswon 3 rd place in Back at You?

  • Post Elementary: Cosmic Brainstormers won 2 nd place in How’d tHAT Happen? and was awarded the Renaissance Medal.

  • Reed Elementary: Goofy Goobers won 3 rd place in Inside Dimension.

  • Robison Elementary: Safari Survivors won 3 rd place in On Safari and a Spirit of Destination ImagiNation medal.

  • Sampson Elementary: World Scouts won 3 rd place in How’d tHAT Happen? and was awarded a Spirit of Destination ImagiNation medal.

State Bound Middle School Winners:

  • Cook Middle School: DI Joes won 1 st place in the How’d tHAT Happen? challenge.

Team members were Joshua Campbell, Lauren Coats, Katherine Creeden, Laetan Gaspard, Krislyn Koehn, Sarah Navarro, and Trey Stoker. The school sponsor was Joyce Bontke and team manager was Joan Coats.

  • Goodson Middle School:DIsfunctional Improv won 1 st place in the On Safari challenge. Team members were Gregory Daues, Kyle Hilberg, and Priyanka Vaidya. The school sponsors were Steven Miller and Kelly Wallis and the team manager was Nancy Daues.          
  • Hamilton Middle School: KIAW won 1 st place in the Back at You! challenge. Team members were Drew Allen, Eddie Brucculeri, Nathalie Charlton, Sally Cogan, Hayden Passon, Daniel Schlomer, and Michael Sliva. The school sponsor was Mary Young-Miller and the team manager was Denise Cogan.

Other Middle School Winners:

  • Cook Middle School: Cook Cocinas won 3 rd place in How’d tHAT Happen? and was awarded the Spirit of Destination ImagiNation medal.
  • Spillane Middle School: Jumpin’ Jelly Beanz won 3 rd place in On Safari.The Goober Peas was awarded the DaVincI Medal. 

State Bound High School Winners:

  • Cy-Fair High School:The Dynamic Super Fundercats won 1 st place in the On Safari challenge. The team members were Lauren Falconi, Bryan Gray, Kelsey Sallade, Matt Wheeler, and Phillip Wozny. The school sponsor was David Winfiele and the team manager was Becky Sallade.
  • Cypress-Ridge High School: The D’s ‘n’ A’s won 1 st place in the Inside Dimension challenge. Team members were Sam Hasselberg, Peter Le, Garrett Line, Casey Lu, Bradley Rhinehart, and Taylor Spalding. The school sponsor was Dena Johnson and the team manager was Anna Bankston.
  • Jersey Village High School:   The Velcro Masters won 1 st place in the Kidz Rulz challenge and a DaVincI medal. Team members were Lee Barker, Kurt Bilanoski, Shin Chu, Jordan Fauser, Jesse Pyle, Sarah Wisterman, and Heather White. The team manager was Curtis Haverty.

Other High School Winners:

  • Cy-Fair High School: The Mad Interdimensional Architects of the Universe won 2 nd place in Inside Dimension.

  • Cypress Falls High School: Team Cypress-Falls won 2 nd place in Kidz Rulz.

  • Cypress Ridge High School: Carmen and the Raptors won 2 nd place in Back at You! and was awarded a Spirit of Destination ImagiNation medal.Allegro 6 won 2 nd place in On Safari.
