CFISD SWIMMERS QUALIFY FOR STATE MEET AT UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS
Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District swimmers recently competed in a regional swimming meet, and now they will compete for titles at the swimming and diving championships that will be held at The University of Texas at Austin, Feb. 23-24.
At the regional swimming meet in Fort Bend, Cypress Creek High School placed first in both the boys and girls divisions; Cypress Falls High School placed third in the boys division; and in the girls division Cy-Fair High School placed second and Langham Creek placed third.
Students representing CFISD high schools will now compete in Austin for the following events:
200-yard Medley Relay:
Representing Cypress Creek High School girls competition are seniors Rachel Edwards, Alex Basso, junior Nanette Wittenberg, and sophomore Abby Edwards; from Langham Creek are sophomores Stephanie Rovig and Ashley Hanigan, and juniors Kristen Young and Elizabeth Gormley. Competing for the boys division from CCHS are seniors Scott Murphy and Jacob Hanson, junior Alex Bernhardt and sophomore Steven Conrad.
200-yard Freestyle:
Representing LCHS in the girls finals for the 200-yard Freestyle is Rovig and from Cy-Fair High School is sophomore Jennifer Lamb.
200-yard IM:
Competing in the girls 200-yard IM finals are junior Nanette Wittenberg from CCHS and freshman Kaelee Mader from Cy-Fair.
1-Meter Diving:
Representing Jersey Village High School in the girls 1-meter diving is senior Meryl Hawk, and for the boys division is senior Stewart Miglicco.
100-yard Butterfly:
Representing CCHS in the 100-yard butterfly girls finals is Wittenberg.
100-yard Freestyle:
Junior Ashley Richter will represent Cy-Fair HS in the girls 100-yard freestyle finals.
500-yard Freestyle:
For the girls 500-yard freestyle competition, Cy-Fair HS will be represented by Lamb and freshman Aimee Richard. In the boys 500-yard freestyle, sophomore Rudy Escalante from Jersey Village High School, and juniors Michael Dobson from Cy-Falls HS and Danny Murphy from CCHS will compete for the title.
200-yard Freestyle Relay:
The girls 200-yard freestyle relay will be represented by Richter, Mader, freshman Seraphina Van, and Lamb from Cy-Fair HS. From CCHS, juniors Justin Cotter and Eddie Salcido, sophomore James Gaudet and senior Jacob Hansen will compete in the boys division.
100-yard Backstroke:
The girls 100-yard backstroke competition will be represented by Rovig from Langham Creek.
100-yard Breaststroke:
Representing the Cy Creek Cougars in the girls 100-yard breaststroke finals are Basso and Gormley from Langham Creek. The boys preliminary breaststroke competition will be represented by Cy Creek’s Murphy and Salcido and senior Hunter Price will represent Cy-Springs.
400-style Freestyle Relay:
Representing the district in the girls 400-style freestyle relay are Van, Richter, Mader, and Lamb; and representing Cy Creek are Wittenberg, Burke, Edwards and Basso.
