CY-FAIR STUDENT ADVANCES TO STATE IN JOURNALISM

For the second consecutive year, Cy-Fair High School senior Amy Johnson will compete at the state level after placing first in Newswriting at the recent UIL Journalism Regional competition.

“Amy Johnson is a phenomenal writer and graphics designer. She is also an excellent role model on the school newspaper. I was not surprised when she advanced to state. I am very excited for her,” said Lillian Harris, Cy-Fair’s journalism adviser.

Johnson, who is currently co-editor of the school newspaper, The Reporter, will compete at the University of Texas on May 4 at 3 p.m.

According to Harris, Johnson has received an award at every journalism competition she has attended.

Her awards include: Superior in Newspaper Design; Excellent in Newspaper Design; 2nd Place in News Writing UIL (District) in 2004; Excellent Rating in Sports Writing at the Journalism Education Association National Convention in Washington D.C. (2003); third in Feature Writing in UIL District (2005); and second in Feature Writing at Regionals.

Johnson is a recipient of the high school chapter Journalism scholarship and will be attending Sam Houston State University to pursue her journalism career.
