STUDENT ADVANCES TO STATE IN JOURNALISM
For the
second consecutive year, Cy-Fair High School senior Amy Johnson
will compete at the state level after placing first in Newswriting
at the recent UIL Journalism Regional competition.
“Amy Johnson is a phenomenal writer and graphics designer. She is
also an excellent role model on the school newspaper. I was not surprised
when she advanced to state. I am very excited for her,” said Lillian
Harris, Cy-Fair’s journalism adviser.
Johnson, who is currently co-editor of the school newspaper, The Reporter,
will compete at the University of Texas on May 4 at 3 p.m.
According to Harris, Johnson has received an award at every journalism
competition she has attended.
Her awards include: Superior in Newspaper Design; Excellent in Newspaper
Design; 2nd Place in News Writing UIL (District) in 2004; Excellent Rating
in Sports Writing at the Journalism Education Association National Convention
in Washington D.C. (2003); third in Feature Writing in UIL District (2005);
and second in Feature Writing at Regionals.
Johnson is a recipient of the high school chapter Journalism scholarship
and will be attending Sam Houston State University to pursue her journalism
career.
