CFISD STUDENT TO COMPETE IN NATIONAL DEBATE TOURNAMENT

Cypress Ridge High School sophomore Gordon Trinh will compete at the national debate tournament in Dallas this June after recently placing third overall in Humorous Interpretation at the Texas Forensic Association State Tournament.

Gordon is a rare combination of both pure talent and hard work. He deserves any recognition he receives,” said the school’s debate coach Scott Baker.

Trinh, an officer of the speech and debate team, was the highest placing CFISD student at the state meet and the only CFISD student to make it to the final round in two events. Trinh and his partner Linda Nguyen, sophomore, were finalists in Duet Acting.

Gordon is just a funny person, in and out of rounds. He excels individually while helping others,” said teammate Nick Cugini.

Cypress Ridge took 10 debate and speech students to compete in the annual tournament, held in Pharr, Texas, which showcased nearly 200 schools from across Texas in nine different debate, public speaking, and oral interpretation events.
