CFISD STUDENTS RECOGNIZED AS WINNERS BY HARRIS COUNTY

Second-grade student Hannah Wiedner, of Sampson Elementary, and fifth-grade student Melanie Stratton, of Moore Elementary, were two of the six first place winners in the annual National Public Health Week poster contest sponsored by Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services (HCPHES).

Of the 26 elementary entries that were submitted, the six that were selected represented each grade level (kindergarten through fifth) as the official 2006 National Public Health Week posters.

All winners, including second-place, fifth-grade winner Lexie Baugh from Moore Elementary, were recognized at Harris County Commissioners Court on April 4 and were awarded a ribbon. Hannah’s and Melanie’s artwork is posted on the HCPHES website at www.harriscountyhealth.com.

The purpose of the National Public Health Week poster contest is to encourage children to learn about the rewards of leading a healthy lifestyle with emphasis on annual themes. This year’s theme was “Designing Healthy Communities: Raising Healthy Kids.”
