PARENT INFORMATION MEETINGS SCHEDULED:
CFISD AWARDED STUDENT DRUG TESTING GRANT
Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District received a grant from the United States Department of Education (USDE) for the administration of drug testing of high school students participating in school-sponsored, competitive extracurricular activities.
CFISD competed with school districts nationwide and was awarded the three-year grant to begin in 2006-2007 for those high school students involved in extracurricular activities.
According to a booklet published by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas states: “We find that testing students who participate in extracurricular activities is a reasonably effective means of addressing the school district’s legitimate concerns in preventing, deterring, and detecting drug use.”
A critical component to the success of this effort will be parent involvement. The first step in the process will be parental information meetings that begin this month. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend any one of the seven meetings offered throughout the district at each high school. During the meetings, parents will receive an overview of the project as well as details on its implementation. Dates and locations of all meetings are as follows:
- April 24 (Monday) at Cypress Creek High School, 7-8 p.m.
- April 25 (Tuesday) at Langham Creek High School, 7-8 p.m.
- May 9 (Tuesday) at Cy-Fair High School, 7-8 p.m.
- May 10 (Wednesday) at Cypress Springs High School, 7-8 p.m.
- May 11 (Thursday) at Cypress Falls High School, 7-8 p.m.
- May 16 (Tuesday) at Jersey Village High School, 7-8 p.m.
- May 17 (Wednesday) at Cypress Ridge High School, 7-8 p.m.
