UCTV AND JVTV WIN EUBIE AWARDS AT SHSU
The television crews at Cypress Creek and Jersey Village high schools recently attended Sam Houston State University’s National Broadcasting Society’s Leadership Conference and won awards in public service announcements, sports television, music videos, newscast stories, documentaries, promos, and docudramas.
CYPRESS CREEK HIGH SCHOOL (UNITED COUGAR TELEVISION—UCTV) Seniors Dillon Menefee and David Love won the first place Eubie trophy for Sports Play by Play of a Cypress Creek basketball game; and sophomore Taylor Williamson placed second for Sports Play by Play of a Cougar basketball game. Menefee also won second place in the Music Video category. Senior Amber Regian and Menefee were awarded second place for their documentary on Cougar football, “Friday Nights: What It Takes.” Menefee and junior Lindsay Calvert received third place recognition in TV Promo for their Student Council Promo of Cypress Creek High School. Menefee also placed third in the Comedy/Drama category for his docudrama, “March of the Nuns.” The entire UCTV staff’s fall newscast placed second in News.
JERSEY VILLAGE HIGH SCHOOL (JERSEY VILLAGE TELEVISION—JVTV) Placing first in TV sports was senior Jared Triska and sophomore Jordan Bontke with their story on “Football Signing.” Triska and Bontke also placed second in the same category with their story on “Boys Soccer.” Placing first in Public Service Announcements was senior Joe Harper with his PSA on “Littering.” Placing second in this same category was Bontke with his PSA on “Wearing Bicycle Helmets.” Sophomore Kalyn Allen placed third in this category with her PSA on “Wash Your Hands.” Placing first in Newscast Stories was senior Travis White with his story on “Gas Prices.” Placing second in this same category was Harper with his story on “Godspell.” The JVTV January Newscast placed first overall with the award-winning editing of seniors Sebastian Garcia and Brad Schuster, junior Erica Rodriguez, and sophomore Kellie Jackson. |
