UCTV AND JVTV STUDENTS WIN AWARDS IN HOUSTON’S YOUNG MOVIEMAKERS CONTEST

 

     United Cougar Television (UCTV) students from Cypress Creek High School and students from Jersey Village Television (JVTV) won awards in Houston’s Young Moviemakers (HYMM) 2006 competition and will be honored at an awards ceremony on April 9 at the Brown Auditorium Theater located in the Museum of Fine Arts/Houston.

Cypress Creek senior Dillon Menefee’s music video, “Slow Motion,” tied for first place in the HYMM competiton. Dillon also received an Honorable Mention for his comedy “March of the Nuns.”

Placing in the News category from Jersey Village were senior Joe Harper with his “Godspell” story who placed first; senior Angie Valadez and junior Katrina Akins who placed second with their story on “The Blood Drive”; and senior Travis White who placed third with his story on “Gas Prices.”

Also from JVTV, sophomore Jordan Bontke placed third in the Public Service Announcement category with his “Hygiene” PSA.   Sophomore Kellie Jackson and senior Sebastian Garcia received an Honorable Mention for their PSA titled “Speak Your Mind.”

First place winners will have their work featured at the awards ceremony on April 9 and all winning entries will be shown on Houston Media Source on April 22.

Houston’s Young Moviemakers 2006 is a collaboration between the film department of The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Women in Film & Television/Houston, the Education Foundation of Harris County, and Houston MediaSource.
