OGLETREE, RYAN AND COVEY RE-ELECTED TO CFISD BOARD
Preliminary results from today’s election for three seats on the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District’s Board of Trustees indicate that incumbent John Ogletree was elected to position 5, unopposed incumbent Don Ryan was elected to position 6, and incumbent Bob Covey to position 7. For the position 5 seat, Ogletree received 913 votes over competitor Monique Hazell, who drew 302 votes. Ogletree has been a trustee since 2003 and will begin his second term of service to the district. Although he drew no opponent, Ryan collected 832 votes and will retain his seat for a third-consecutive term on the CFISD Board. He has been a trustee since May 2000 and has served as Board vice president and secretary during his previous terms. For the position 7 seat, Covey received 745 votes over competitor Andrew Ewoh, who drew 380 votes. This will be the first full term for Covey. He won the special election in 2005 to fill the vacant seat for position 7. Overall, the election drew 1,215 votes for position 5; 832 votes for position 6; and 1,125 votes for position 7. Early voting accounted for 30 percent, 36 percent and 35 percent of the ballots cast in each of the three respective races. Official results from today’s election will be canvassed and announced during the Monday, May 22 Board of Trustees special-called meeting, at which the elected candidates to position 5, 6 and 7 will be sworn in to serve a three-year term.
