THREE CFISD TEACHERS AWARDED A+ FOR ENERGY GRANTS

Laryssa Hunter (Aragon Middle School), Tom Tanner (Copeland Elementary) and Gloria Ashbaugh (Millsap Elementary) were recognized during a celebration on June 12 at Space Center Houston by state and community leaders.

BP America announced the winners of its A+ for Energy Program, which awards $1 million in grants and scholarships to teachers in five counties in Texas—Brazoria, Chambers, Ft. Bend, Galveston and Harris.

The program, which recognizes teachers for their innovative ways to teach kids about energy and energy conservation, awarded recipients with a $5,000 or $10,000 grants for energy education materials in their classrooms. Recipients were also given the opportunity to attend a three-day A+ for Energy Conference presented in partnership with the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project.

BP has partnered with the NEED Project to provide compelling curriculum content that is aligned with Texas education standards. NEED provides energy education training and curriculum to teachers and students in grades pre-k through 12 throughout the United States. The A+ for Energy program was developed to meet the needs of teachers in Texas who want to expand their core curricula with energy education activities.
