During its June 12 meeting, the Board of Trustees of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District approved the superintendent’s recommendation to name Roy Sprague assistant superintendent for facilities planning and construction.
Sprague served as director for planning and construction for four years and then was promoted to senior director for facilities planning and construction, a position he has held for five years. As senior director, Sprague was responsible for $1.4 billion in bond projects. He leads a department of 18 exceptional staff members and is responsible for the services provided by more than 50 consultants and contractors annually. He also provides supervision and direction for the energy management program which has an annual utility budget of more than $13 million. With H.D. Chambers’ selection as superintendent of Stafford ISD, Dr. Anthony reorganized and upgraded Sprague’s position, adding to it the responsibility of building modifications. |

The Board also approved Larry Matysiak as new director of secondary music, replacing Bill Quillen who plans to retire at the end of the 2005-2006 school year. With 30 years of experience in education, Matysiak comes to CFISD after 23 years as head band director and department head at Clements High School in from Fort Bend ISD. Prior to Clements, Matysiak was an associate band director at Dulles High School for six years and an assistant band director at Angleton High School for one year. He received a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Education from the University of Houston, along with a mid-management certificate.
A member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Matysiak has been named Teacher of the Year, named Influential Teacher by Texas Christian University, selected to perform at Carnegie Hall and Symphony Hall, listed numerous times in the Who’s Who of American Teachers Citation, recipient of the Sudler Flag of Honor and received the TMEA Achievement and Dedication Award. |
