
June 2, 2006CFISD TEACHERS HONORED BY WAL-MART/SAM’S CLUB
Seven Cypress-Fairbanks ISD teachers were recognized by the Wal-Mart/SAM'S CLUB Foundation during the 11 th Annual Teacher of the Year program for making a positive difference in the lives of young people. Antonia Wong from Cypress Creek High School; Anne Gill from Cy-Fair High School; Kausam Salam from Cypress Falls High School; Gary Thibaud from Cypress Ridge High School; Lise Grenwelge from Holbrook Elementary; and Cortnee Stockton from Kahla Middle School; and Susan Sprawls from Wilson Elementary. Nominations were made in February by store shoppers who cast ballots for outstanding teachers as they visited their local Wal-Mart store, Supercenter, Neighborhood Market or SAM'S CLUB. Winners were selected and announced in May. Each winning teacher received a $1,000 educational grant from the Wal-Mart/SAM'S CLUB Foundation to benefit their local school and an honorary Wal-Mart polo shirt. They also were eligible to apply for state and national Teacher of the Year honors. State winners will receive an additional $10,000 educational grant and automatically be entered in the national competition. The national winner will receive an additional $25,000 educational grant for a total of $36,000 to his or her school. |
