Cypress Falls HS soccer player drafted by the Houston Dynamo
Dec. 19, 2006 —Seventeen-year-old senior Walberto “ Pana” Vazquez of Cypress Falls High School, along with his parents, will be at the Houston Dynamo offices, located at 1415 Louisiana, Suite 3400, today at 4 p.m. for his official presentation as the first selection of the Houston Dynamo Player Development System.
"I am extremely excited and proud of Walberto,” said Kevin Napier, head boys soccer coach. “Over the past four years Walberto has not only developed as an outstanding player but has matured tremendously as a person. His ability as a soccer player and his genuine personality make him a great fit as the first player to be selected for the Dynamo Academy."
Vasquez will join the Dynamo Player Development System's U-18 team. He is currently a senior at Cy Falls High School, where he plays as an attacking midfielder/forward. At a club level, he plays for the Houstonians, and has been a part of the South Texas Olympic Development Program for the last 5 years as well as a part of the Region 3 Olympic Development Program.
The Houston Dynamo Player Development System ( DPDS), in partnership with the South Texas Youth Soccer Association ( STYSA), will become one of the elite youth development programs in all of America. This system will provide area youth soccer players with a platform to develop their skills and a direct "path to the pros."
“ Walberto is one of our outstanding soccer players and we are extremely happy for him and hope he will have a successful professional career with the Dynamos,” said Dr. Robert Worthy, principal at Cypress Falls High School.
