CFISD wins big at Destination ImagiNation regional competition
Feb. 23, 2007 — Ninety-seven teams representing 37 Cypress-Fairbanks ISD schools participated in the Gulf Coast Regional Destination ImagiNation Competition on Saturday, Feb. 17.
Thirty-four of the 97 teams brought home 41 awards: two Da Vinci Awards, given for outstanding creativity; three Renaissance awards, given for unusual solutions, skill and excellence of design; four Spirit of Discovery and Imagination (Spirit of DI), given for the team that sets the standard of positive team interaction and collaboration; nine third place awards; nine second place awards and 14 first place awards.
Sixteen winning teams will compete in the Texas Destination ImagiNation State Competition, which will be held at the University of Texas at Dallas on April 13-14, 2007.
State Bound Elementary Winners :
- Hamilton Elementary :
- The Mighty Minds won 2nd place in the Round About Courage challenge. Team members were Natalie Braun, Russell Braun, Andrea Brucculeri, Emma Fogel, Garrett Norwood, Sara Singer and Taylor Thompson. The school sponsors were Betty Collette and Ruth Ann Narveson and the team manager was Mark Norwood.
- The Squirrels won 1st place and the Renaissance Award in the CSI-DI Challenge, Flight I. Team members were Colin Chappell, Casey Cogan, Erin Curby, Brooke Hanley, Mitchell Shockley, Ross Tuzin and Kirsten Williamson. The school sponsors were Betty Collette and Ruth Ann Narveson, and the team manager was Denise Cogan.
- Lowery Elementary : The Courageous 6 won 1st place in the Round About Courage Challenge. Team members were Marin Anderson, Kristina Bates, Amanda Fontenot, Angelica Grayson, Emily Honeywell and Fiona Painter. The school sponsor was Joanne Danaher and the team manager was Fiona Painter.
- Kirk Elementary : The Tradition Travellerz won 1st place in the Switching TraDItions challenge. Team members were Kendall Baab, Makenzie Moriarty, Hannah Rokhsaz, Meena Sundaresan, Lauren Thoman and Kendall Viator. The school sponsor was Kelly Reese and the team manager was Angela Baab.
- Yeager Elementary :
- Fly High DI won 1st place and the Spirit of DI award in the DIrect Flight challenge, Flight D. Team members were Sam Cartwright, Jonathan Cook, Jordan McGaughey, Bradley Stevens, Tommy Watson, Hayden Wilkerson and Jake Willingham. The school sponsor was Ardith Daily and the team manager was Carol Stevens.
- DI-namites won 1st place in the DIrect Flight Challenge, Flight I. Team members were Alex Brogan, Allison Godfrey, Matt Granger, Shawn Killalea, Austin Michals and Lindsey Miller. The school sponsor was Ardith Daily and the team manager was Richard Godfrey.
- WilDImagination won 1st place and the Da Vinci Award in the CSI-DI Challenge, Flight D. Team members were Michelle Barnett, Andrew Boushka, Alex Cook, Grant Cook, Cameron Frederick, Alex Mudd and Kirsten Thomas. The school sponsor was Ardith Daily and the team managers were Molly Cook and Julie Boushka.
Other Elementary Winners :
- Ault Elementary : The FDIs placed 2nd in CSI-DI, Flight I; and Dancing With the Cards placed 3rd and received the Da Vinci award in Car-DI-ology.
- Emmott Elementary : The Emmott DI Rockets placed 3rd in CSI-DI, Flight I.
- Hamilton Elementary : 1000 Volts of Brilliance placed 3rd in Round About Courage.
- Keith Elementary : Flying Eagles placed 3rd in the DIrect Flight Challenge, Flight D; Phileas Fogg’s Fabulous Flying Falcons placed 2nd in the DIrect Flight Challenge, Flight I; DI Sharks tied for 3rd in the CSI-DI Challenge, Flight D; and Cardiology Kings and Queens received the Renaissance Award in Car-DI-ology.
- Lowery Elementary : DItectives received the Spirit of DI award in the CSI-DI Challenge, Flight D.
- Post Elementary : Clueless received the Spirit of DI award in CSI-DI, Flight I.
- Sampson Elementary: Soaring Stallions placed 2nd in the DIrect Flight Challenge, Flight D; and Cy and the Girls Nationwide placed 3rd in the Switching TraDItions Challenge.
- Wilson Elementary: DItectives placed 3rd and received the Spirit of DI Award in CSI, Flight G; and DImagination Crew placed 2nd in the Switching TraDItions Challenge.
State Bound Middle School Winners:
- Bleyl Middle School : The Music Makers won 1st place and the Renaissance Award in the Round About Courage Challenge. Team members were Abigail Buck, Audrey Cash, Kelsey McGlamery, Katie Mudd, Deanna Narveson. and Kelly Robinson. The school sponsor was Renee Mai and the team manager was Linda Mudd.
- Goodson Middle School : The S.N.I.F.F.S. won 1st place in the CSI-DI challenge. Team members were Jackson Beard, Julianne Crea, Kaylyn Hudson, Madison Jones, Blake Paterson, Natalie Patton and Amanda Roensch. The school sponsor was Kelly Wallis and the team manager was Karen Patton.
- Hamilton Middle School:
- K.I.A.W. won 1st place in the DIrect Flight challenge. Team members were Drew Allen, Eddie Bruccaleri, Nathalie Charlton, Sally Cogan, Hayden Passon, Daniel Schlommer and Michael Sliva. The school sponsor was Mary Young-Miller and the team manager was Denise Cogan.
- The Organic Alliance won 1st place in the Switching TraDItions Challenge. Team members were Pierce Franklin, Candace Gooding, A.J. Horst, Rebecca Norcini, MiMi Spjut, Sam Spjut and Sarah Wheeler. The school sponsor was Mary Youngblood-Miller and the team managers were Jonell Norcini and Heidi Wheeler.
- Truitt Middle School : The D.I.Tectives won 2nd place in the CSI-DI Challenge. Team members were Saber Ahmed, Sara Gutierrez, Jared Nunez, Hannah Powers, Ali Raza and Molly Welch. The school sponsor was Kelly Reese and the team manager was Trina Powers.
Other Middle School Winners:
- Cook Middle School: The Crazy Cook Cows won 3rd place in CSI-DI.
- Goodson Middle School : The Hard Core Lemonz placed 3rd in the Switching TraDItions Challenge.
- Hamilton Middle School : TheLucky 7’s won 3rd place in Round About Courage.
- Labay Middle School : The Labay Lords and Ladies placed 2nd in the Switching TraDItions Challenge.
State Bound High School Winners:
- Cypress Falls High School:
- Cy-Falls 1 placed 1st in CSI-DI. Team members were Patricia Bacalao, Sophia Chen, Tiffany Dao, Robert Dupree, Linda Ly, Tammy Phan and Jessica Wei. The team manager and school sponsor was Linda Collins.
- Jessica Wei received a college scholarship from Gulf Coast Region Destination Imagination.
- Cypress Woods High School : Cy Woods Number One placed 1st in Switching TraDItions, 1st in DI Extreme and received the Da Vinci Award. Team members were Erin Duhon, Lauren Falconi, Bryan Gray, Kelsey Sallade, Matt Wheeler and Phillip Wozny. The school sponsor was Trina Powers and the team manager was Becky Sallade.
- Cypress Springs High School : Blue placed 1st in Car-DI-ology. Team members were Alexander Acosta, Jenny Blasse, Stuart Hiarker, Miguel Martinez, Junior Olanrewaju and Jessica Wilson.
Other High School Winners:
- Jersey Village High School : The Velco Masters placed 2nd in CSI-DI and 2nd in DI Extreme.
