Cypress Springs student to attend prestigious art school for teens
April 9, 2007 —Miguel Martinez, a sophomore at Cypress Springs High School, was accepted into the Advanced Curriculum for Teens (ACT) Glassell School of Art last week.
Fewer than 15 students were chosen for the prestigious ACT Glassell program, which provides the most creative high school students in the greater Houston area with innovative curriculum, specialized faculty, affiliation with the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and partnerships with area universities.
ACT Glassell classes are conducted at a level equivalent to college studio classes, and students selected for the program are offered a full scholarship into the program through their senior year in high school.
The curriculum is designed for the committed fine art student who will commit to a three-hour art class every Saturday afternoon through the 14-week fall and spring semesters of 2007-2008. Students receive a grade for each course and a certificate of completion at their fulfillment of the program.
“Miguel is intellectually curious, an exhaustive researcher, and has broad interests,” said Kara Czepiel, Cypress Springs art teacher. “I believe that an institution such as Glassell will continue to benefit from each of these qualities.”
