‘Peace quilt’ bridges U.S., Afghani students
May 22, 2007 — Students in Tina Bunn’s and Carol Ogle’s art classes at Dean Middle School recently completed a “peace quilt” that will be sent to students in Afghanistan. For the project, Dean students designed squares labeled with messages of peace, which were then stitched into the quilt.
On Tuesday, the class showed off the quilt to Dean principal Mike Smith and Superintendent Dr. David Anthony. Backed by a grant from the Fund for Teachers, the peace quilt will be sent to students at the Phoenix School in Herat, Afghanistan, next month.
