Four named Scholar Athletes of Year
May 24, 2007 — Four CFISD student-athletes
were named Houston Scholar Athletes of the Year in their
respective sports during the Houston Athletic Committee
banquet Wednesday night.
Jeff Onstott of Langham Creek High School was named the
Baseball Scholar Athlete of the year; Kyle Kahlden of
Cypress Creek High School was named the Boys Basketball
Scholar Athlete of the Year; Michael Dobson of Cypress
Falls High School was named the Swimming Scholar Athlete
of the Year; and Allison Pye of Cypress Creek High School
was named the Girls Track and Field Scholar Athlete of
the Year.
The Houston Athletic Committee receives annual nominations
from area high school coaches regarding their scholar
athletes. A selection committee of area athletic directors
or associate athletic directors then evaluates each nominee
based on three categories: academics (class rank, SAT
scores and overall GPA); athletics (overall success as
an athlete); and other (clubs, volunteer work or other
extra-curricular activities). Each category is assigned
a point value and the top four candidates from each sport
are selected to attend the banquet.
Other nominees from CFISD were: Jessica Pollio, Cypress
Creek High School, Softball; Victoria Williams, Cypress
Creek High School, Girls Basketball; Andrew Lai, Cypress
Falls High School, Boys Golf; James Patrick Braun, Cy-Fair
High School, Boys Soccer; and Cody Johnson, Cypress Creek
High School, Boys Track and Field.
