District pair named to U.S. youth track team

May 25, 2007 — Jersey Village High School junior shotputter and discus thrower Michael Barbas and Cypress Falls junior runner Blake Shaw were both recently selected to represent the United States at the 2007 IAAF World Youth Championships on July 11-15 in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Barbas won a silver medal in the discus competition (173 feet, 3 inches) at the UIL State Championships this month, while Shaw earned a silver in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.44.

The two CFISD athletes are among only 16 males named to the Team USA roster.
