Cy-Fair sweeps, heads to regional finals
May 25, 2007 — The Cy-Fair High School
baseball team swept past Fort Bend Elkins, 2-1 and 4-1,
over the weekend to advance to the Class 5A Region III
finals this week.
Tommy Collier was the winning pitcher for Cy-Fair in game
one, and Logan Moss registered the win in game two.
The Bobcats now have a 29-7 season record. Their best-of-three
series with Kingwood will take place at the University
of Houston. Game one will start at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday;
game two will start at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and game three,
if necessary, will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Kingwood (28-10) advanced to the regional finals by eliminating
the second seed from District 17-5A, Langham Creek. The
Lobos began the series with a 5-4 game one win on Thursday,
but fell 10-8 in game two on Friday. Rainy weather forced
game three to be played in Lufkin on Monday, where LCHS
suffered a 9-8 series-ending defeat.
The Lobos finished the season with a 34-4 overall record,
a No. 6 national ranking from Baseball America and
a No. 3 state ranking from the Texas High School Baseball
Coaches Association. The Lobos were also district runners-up
and Region III semifinalists.
