Bond Study Committee to host public forum
June 7, 2007—The 70-member Bond Steering Committee (BSC), charged by the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District’s Board of Trustees to evaluate the district’s needs and develop a bond issue recommendation, will host a Public Forum on June 18 from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.
During the Public Forum, Cy-Fair residents are invited to share their input as to what they have identified as district needs with the committee. Public input is an important part of the committee’s evaluation in making a recommendation for a bond referendum.
The forum will be held in the Board Room of the Instructional Support Center, 10300 Jones Road. Speaker sign up will start at 6:15 p.m. prior to the beginning of the forum and each speaker will be given a maximum of three minutes. The forum will end at 7:15 p.m. or with the final speaker, whichever occurs first. The BSC will then move into a regularly scheduled meeting. The public may attend the meeting and listen to discussion, but may not participate.
Along with public input, the committee must also assess the educational needs of students while developing a recommendation that is fiscally sound. The committee’s recommendation must provide a solution for the facility and instructional technology needs brought on by the district’s rapid growth and projected enrollment of 115,000 students over the next several years, ensure support for a quality education for all students, ensure an adequate and appropriate learning environment and develop a five-year plan based on the evaluation of renovation needs of the district’s existing facilities.
The BSC, comprised of parents, district employees, and business and community members, reflects both the geographic and demographic diversity of the district. The committee has been regularly meeting to study and discuss the need for and the scope of a bond issue for the district.
