June 11, 2007-The Cy-Fair High School baseball team put a fitting stamp on a 27-game win streak with a 6-1 win over Harlingen South in the Class 5A state championship game on Saturday at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
The win gave Cy-Fair its first state title in school history, which capped a 32-7 season that featured a District 17-5A championship and an undefeated playoff record of 12-0.
Senior pitcher Brandon Finken (6-1) was named the State Tournament MVP after throwing a complete game four-hitter with nine strikeouts. Outfielder Caleb Ramsey led the Bobcats at the plate by going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Finken and Ramsey were both selected to the All-Tournament Team, along with catcher Landon Lee, first baseman Tommy Collier, shortstop Jonathan Ogden and outfielders Robbie Grossman and Kevin Sah.
"It was a great experience for the team and for the community and the school," said 28th year head coach Woody Champagne. "You think about doing those kinds of things but you never think they might happen. . Every head coach of every sport wants to get to that level and win a championship, so I've been one of those lucky ones."
