June 11, 2007—The CFISD Food Service department received several honors at the Texas Association of Student Nutrition (TASN) Annual Conference, held June 3-7 at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine.
The district was recognized for increasing student breakfast and lunch participation by more than 10 percent during the 2006-2007 school year. CFISD increased its daily servings of breakfast and lunch by 11,500 from 2005-2006.
CFISD also received recertification for the TASN Standards of Excellence Program. The program is a voluntary peer evaluation of established standards that promotes excellence in child nutrition programs. Only 11 districts in the state are currently certified.
Additionally, the district received a $5,000 grant from Dairy Max to promote breakfast in the classroom. In 2007-2008, more than 30 elementary schools will serve “Grab and Go” breakfast. Since implementation of the “Grab and Go” program, the Food Service department has increased elementary breakfast participation by 1.4 million meals annually.
