September 11, 2007—Cypress Falls High School senior football player Shane Turner and Cy-Fair High School senior volleyball player Leah Olson were named the Boys and Girls Athletes of the Week, respectively, by the Houston Chronicle.

Turner gained 246 yards of total offense and three touchdowns as Cypress Falls defeated Spring Westfield, 47-45, on Friday. He ran for a 49-yard fourth quarter touchdown to provide the eventual winning score for the Golden Eagles, who are 1-1 on the year.

Olson, who plays the libero position, was named most outstanding defensive player over the weekend as Cy-Fair won the Kingwood Tournament championship over Stratford on Saturday.

Langham Creek High School football player Cortez Paige was another nominee for Boys Athlete of the Week following an all-around performance in a 44-20 win over Mayde Creek. He caught two passes for 90 yards and a touchdown on offense; recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass on defense; and returned a kickoff for a touchdown on special teams.
