November 12, 2007 — Two CFISD athletes finished in the top 10 at the UIL Class 5A Cross Country State Championships, held Saturday at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.
Langham Creek High School senior Nicole Peters placed sixth overall with a time of 11:32.60—17 seconds off the lead.
“Nicole’s prior three years of experience at the State Meet helped her tremendously: as a freshman she was 15th; as a sophomore she was 12th and as a junior she was fifth,” said LCHS coach Ellen Robinson. “For the past four years Nicole has represented Langham Creek with great poise, phenomenal athleticism and academic achievement.”
Cypress Falls High School sophomore Jordan Hopper placed 10 th with a time of 11:43.35.
“She’s an exceptional runner. She’s a competitive person and she ran her best,” said Cypress Falls cross country coach Erica Gyllstrom. “She went out there with her goal in mind and exceeded her goals. She’s only a sophomore so she has two more years to try to go back to state and get even better.”
More than 100 girls competed in the race. Peters and Hopper were the only CFISD athletes to qualify for the state championships.
