November 12, 2007 — The Cy-Fair High School girls volleyball team will compete in the UIL Class 5A State Championships this weekend at the Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos after sweeping through the Region III Tournament at Aldine’s Campbell Center last weekend.
The Bobcats defeated Fort Bend Dulles by scores of 25-13, 25-23, 25-21 in the regional semifinal on Friday, then dusted off Clear Creek, 25-12, 25-12, 25-14, in the regional final on Saturday.
The Region III title boosted Cy-Fair’s season record to 36-2 and put them back in the state tournament for the first time since 1990.
“We were prepared, but had no idea how breathtaking the regional title would be,” said head coach Donna Benotti. “We were all in tears of joy.”
The Bobcats will meet Amarillo High (44-1) in the state semifinals at 7 p.m. on Friday. The winner will play the winner of Austin Westlake vs. Plano West in the state finals at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
“The state tournament will be filled with strong competing and we are prepared to battle our way through the tournament championships.”
