Langham Creek athletes sign letters of intent

November 20, 2007 — Langham Creek High School athletes signed national letters of intent to their respective universities on Monday and Tuesday.

Senior swimmer Stephanie Rovig signed with the University of Missouri on Monday.

“For the last three seasons Stephanie has been a leader in the pool. Her accomplishments include qualifying for state three seasons in the row,” said LCHS swimming coach Scott Carroll. “She’s a hard worker who truly has a passion and love for the sport. Her presence will be missed at the high school level but any college will be excited to add her to their program. We wish her the best of luck at Missouri.”

Senior baseball players Codey Morehouse, a shortstop/pitcher;and Andrew Benak, a right-handed pitcher, signed with the University of Houston and Rice University , respectively, on Tuesday.

“It is a great honor for me to coach two young men that exemplify the word student-athlete,” said baseball coach Armando Sedeño. “Both these young men work extremely hard at their craft of baseball and it is no wonder they were recruited by these two great universities. I am very proud of Andrew and Codey, their families, their teammates and the baseball community here at Langham Creek.”

Senior softball player Nikki Chandler, a shortstop, signed with Oregon State University on Tuesday.

“Nikki is an incredible leader and a very gifted athlete. Her work ethic along with the desire and love she has for the game has enabled her to fulfill this lifelong dream of playing Division I softball,” said LCHS softball coach Michele Biffle. “Playing for Oregon State will give her the Division I experience she has always dreamed of.  She will make an immediate impact on their program.”

Last week, senior basketball player Mercedes Johnson signed with the University of Louisiana-Lafeyette.

“Mercedes does things that you just can’t teach,” said girls basketball coach Annette Steward. “She is very competitive, and I know she will put her heart and hard work into getting better each year.”
