Español

December 5, 2007 —Spillane Middle School’s Superintendent Student Leadership Council (SSLC) and Teen Leadership presented a check worth $8,296.61 to the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) on Wednesday.

SSLC adviser Debbie Martin organized the fund raising from Oct. 31-Nov. 20 through the LLS’ Pasta for Pennies contest, which teacher Kelley Armstrong helped introduce to the school.

Jim Horner’s class won the Pasta for Pennies contest by raising more than $1,000, and will receive a free catered lunch from Olive Garden. The LLS also provided $400 so that Spillane could purchase Sam’s/Wal-Mart gift cards to give to the needy.

Hope Morrison, a representative of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, said Spillane’s contribution to the LLS was the most ever by a CFISD school.

“The support we received from Spillane is incredible,” Morrison said. “These funds will be used for blood cancer research, for patients battling blood cancer and for education about blood cancer.”

Morrison said that other schools who wish to support the LLS can find more information at the LLS School & Youth Programs website at www.schoolandyouth.org/txg.
