
December 18, 2007 — The Cy-Fair High School girls basketball team retired the jersey number of former star Lindsey Harding—now a player for the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx—during halftime of the Bobcats’ home game against Cypress Woods on Monday.
Harding was a four-year starter and four-time all-district selection for Cy-Fair under head coach Ann Roubique before graduating in 2002. As a senior, she averaged 25.0 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. As a junior she averaged 17.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. She still holds numerous school records in track and field in the 200-, 300- and 400-meter runs, 300-meter hurdles and high jump.
She left Cy-Fair to play college basketball for Duke University, where she led the Blue Devils to three NCAA tournament appearances, including one NCAA Championship game. Harding was only the sixth player in ACC history to register 1,000 points, 500 assists, 500 rebounds and 250 steals. During her senior year, s he was given the NCAA Player of the Year and the Naismith College Player of the Year awards.
She was drafted No. 1 overall by the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA Draft in April, then traded to the Minnesota Lynx. She averaged 11.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists during her rookie season.
