December 18, 2007 — Chris Hecker, the director of instruction at Cypress Woods High School, was named the new principal at Dean Middle School on Monday.

Hecker replaces Michael Smith, who was named the new principal at Cy-Fair High School. Both new assignments will take effect when CFISD staff members return after the Christmas break.

"I am so excited to be back at Dean to serve the students, community and staff as we continue to build on the tradition of student success and high achievement for all," Hecker said.

Hecker began his career in education at Langham Creek High School as a world history teacher, teen leadership teacher and swim coach from 1997-2004, before moving to Dean as an assistant principal from 2004-2006. In 2006 he moved to Cypress Woods as an assistant principal and then director of instruction beginning in January 2007.

Hecker received his Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Texas and his Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston. He holds certifications in Secondary Social Studies Composite Teaching and Principal Certification.
